The above article reads:
The cast of hit BBC1 hospital drama Casualty were in shock last night after FIVE of its top stars were axed in a bloodbath by bosses.
The bombshell came as the BBC decided to bring new blood into the show which has been running for an incredible 17 years.
But one stunned insider said: "Casualty? Its more like a massacre - people are walking around like zombies, they just cant believe it."
The Casaulty list is:
- Charge Nurse Lisa "Duffy" Duffin, played by Cathy Shipton, who has starred since the first episode.
- Receptionist Jack vincent (Will Melor)
- Nurse Dillion Cahill (Dan Rymer)
- Nurse Colette Kierney (Adjoh Andoh)
- A&E assistant Tony Vincent (Lee Warburton)
Our Source revealed: "The actors were called in one by one to see the producer and were expecting to discuss scripts or pay rates."
"Some came close to tears and now morale has plummeted. Everyone is waiting to see who'll be knifed next!"
The show was an instant hit, regularly pulling in 10 million viewers and in 1998, 18 million were tuning in.
Viewing figures are now just eight million - yet big named stars are queueing to appear on the show.
Gillian Taylforth, Patsy Kensit and Griff Rhys Jones have all appeared in this series alone - and telly hunk Robson Green launched his career there, playing a porter.
But beeb bosses fear viewers are becoming bored with the same old faces. An insider said: "The sacked actors will leave throughout the year with big storylines and be replaced with new blood to keep it interesting."
Former Hollyoaks star Will Melor is believed to have resigned in disgust of the mass axings. No cuts are expected at spin-off show 'Holby City'
A BBC spokesman confirmed: "It's True but throughout its 17 years, Casualty has been invigorated by new members of the cast."

Oh come on Casualty! This aint fair! You already sacked people last series what is it all about - dont you realise you are probably going to loose more viewers by getting rid of the familar faces! (i.e Duffy - she IS Casualty, her and Charlie are what Casualty is all about! Dont you see it!) Get your act together Mal and Mervyn and give the viewers what we want not what you think we want! We want our favourite characters back and we shouldnt have to hear about you 'axing' them! Pull it together or loose your viewers!
